
A Little About Me!

Gabriela Tijerina is a Latina illustrator and children's book author from Laredo, Texas.
She earned her BFA at Otis College of Art and Design in 2022 with emphases in both illustration and animation. During her time at Otis, Tijerina was awarded The Studio Distinction Award.
In 2022, Tijerina published her debut children's book, Abuela's Fideo: a Story of a Grandma's Love. In this heartwarming story, Tijerina touches on themes of grief and family while still connecting to her young audience. In 2023, Abuela's Fideo was awarded Commended Title Winner by the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs.

Tijerina has worked with MOVE Texas, a nonprofit organization that strives to spark civic engagement in underrepresented groups as both a contracted artist and fellow.
Tijerina explores ideas of childhood memories, innocence and mental illness in her work, which include a variety of soft sculptures, digital illustrations and mixed media collages.
Tijerina is currently based in San Antonio, Texas.
